About Us

Our Story

In 1964, Bob Anderson opened a small newspaper stand in Maynard, MA. He called it The Paper Store, with a simple goal: to bring something special to the community. Today, that legacy continues through TPS Group Holdings, a family of brands that includes The Paper Store and Uncharted. Collectively, our brands represent one of the nation’s largest family-owned specialty retailers—with more than 100 stores across the country, supported by over 3,000 employees.

Our stores offer an ever-changing collection of products, spanning fashion, beauty essentials, home décor, jewelry, and more. We proudly partner with today’s and tomorrow’s top brands like Stanley, Jellycat, UGG, Steve Madden, and Kendra Scott. And we welcome emerging favorites like Touchland, Supergoop!, and Z Supply to help keep our assortment fresh and exciting.

Shopping with us is about more than checking items off a to-do list. It’s about taking a moment for yourself, finding inspiration, and walking away with more than you expected. 1990's

The company experiences significant growth, adding nine locations across Massachusetts.

2014

The Paper Store celebrates its 50th anniversary with a company-wide
Friends & Family celebration

2018

The Paper Store opens its 80th location in Amherst, NY, marking the beginning of its expansion beyond New England.

2020

A new chapter begins as The Paper Store, LLC is sold and operates under TPS Group Holdings, LLC, continuing to be recognized by consumers as "The Paper Store."

2021

The Paper Store expands outside the Northeast for the first time, opening 13 new locations in Florida.

2022

The company unveils its first “Signature Store,” a large 12,000-square-foot space that blends in-store experiences with a new way to shop.

2024

The Paper Store expands its reach with the launch of Uncharted, a new store concept in Chicago—marking its first location in the Midwest.

Giving Back

We’re proud to support the communities where our customers and employees live, work, and play. Over the years, we’ve raised millions of dollars for causes close to our hearts. We’re committed to giving back through donations to organizations like Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Children's Hospital, local schools, shelters, food pantries, and first responders.

Caring for Our Planet

We’re always looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact. Across our stores, corporate office, and distribution center, we’re taking steps to minimize our footprint and make a difference—one small change at a time. Some of our key efforts include:

Eliminating single-use plastics: In 2021, we phased out all single-use plastic bags across our stores. Our reusable paper bags now contain 40% post-consumer recycled materials, with plans to increase this by 2024.

Energy efficiency: We’ve installed energy-efficient lighting and heating systems across our store fleet to reduce energy consumption.

Reducing waste: We’ve cut down on corrugated cardboard-based products and switched to reusable totes for store-to-store shipments. All cardboard materials are recycled wherever possible.

Encouraging refillables: Inspired by Family Owner & CEO, Tom Anderson, we’ve launched an initiative to reduce plastic water bottle usage company-wide. We’ve installed filtered water systems in our stores, corporate office, and distribution center to encourage employees and customers to use non-plastic, refillable water options. Many of our Signature Stores now offer water bottle refilling stations.
