Byers’ Choice FAQ
Q. How did Byers’ Choice get its name?
A. Byers’ Choice is named after artist and company founder, Joyce Byers. Not satisfied with the Christmas decorating trends of the 1960’s, she designed her first Carolers figures for her own home. Her family and relatives were impressed by her work, and in the late 1970’s, Byers’ Choice was born! Today, a team of artisans in Pennsylvania handcraft every Caroler creation, year after year.
Q. What products does Byers’ Choice make?
A. Byers’ Choice is best known for their beloved Carolers collection. Each year, new designs join a cast of classic characters, keeping the tradition of craftsmanship and holiday spirit alive! Townsfolk and Santa Claus figures make up the Carolers collection. In addition to Carolers, Byers’ Choice offers accessories for dressing up a Carolers arrangement, as well as advent calendars and other seasonal pieces.
Q. What inspires the look of Byers’ Choice Carolers?
A. Byers’ Choice Carolers were inspired by a desire to bring warmth and tradition back to Christmas decorating. This is why each Carolers figure, whether it’s a man, woman, child, or Santa, wears traditional, winter clothing and is dressed in warm, festive colors.
Q. Are Byers’ Choice Carolers handmade?
A. Byers’ Choice Carolers are indeed handcrafted by a team of 80 artisans in Pennsylvania. This loving process ensures that no two Carolers are alike. Each quality figure is exquisitely detailed so that it brings the Christmas spirit home!
Q. How do I care for my Carolers figure?
A. Keep Carolers in a dry environment, as excess moisture or humidity can cause metal parts to rust and mold to grow on certain fabrics. Excess sunlight will also cause fabric colors to fade. When displaying, it is best to keep Carolers out of reach of pets. When storing away after the holidays have past, make sure Carolers are placed in a secure container, so that mice cannot steal their fabric and other materials!
Q. How can I repair a broken Carolers figure?
A. Byers’ Choice recommends white craft glue to reattach most broken-off pieces, such as mittens or shoes. If shoes become scratched, a matching, permanent marker can be used to touch it up. A nail file can be used to smooth chips in the base, as well. Finally, powder blush may be used to return cheeks to a rosy color.
Q. What does Byers’ Choice do to give back to the community?
A. Byers’ Choice was founded on the ideals of Christmas and giving back to friends, family, and those in need. In keeping with that spirit, Byers’ Choice donates a significant portion of their profits each year to charities, both locally and around the world.
